Food Sovereignty campaign launched at Rathgama, Galle

SFO-Galle organized Food sovereignty campaign at Rathgama in Galle district today.
There were above 50 participants attended the program in which main focus was around the small scale fisheries issues and the way we need to address the issues collectively. The imlortance of food sovereignty for small food producers, consumers and also the traders was highlighted. At the same time the climate crisis and the necessity to work towards climate justice to address the global warming and its consequences.

Dulip Rangajeewa the coordinator of SFO-Galle said at the event, "the small scale fisheries issues need to address as a political issue. There should be serious attention be paid to the issues of small scale food producers. That is why we need national fisheries and agricultural policies to address those issues. SFO/ NAFSO has been an organization to bring attention to develop national policies through people's participation."

How do we take part in the development dialogue, how the people's voice bring to the negotiation table, is our movement strong enough to pressurize the relevant authorities, were some of the important issues emerged at the follow up dialogue.
Francis Priyankara the training coordinator of NAFSO responding to those issues shared, "NAFSO is not an isolated social movement and we work with other movements related to agriculture, plantation, workers and women in all these sectors. Bringing the all working class people to address the issues related to free flow of capital. We need to bring all possible forces together to address them."
The follow up actions were also discussed and agreed among the participants.
