SVFWO of Negombo organized the food sovereignty campaign at Jubilee hall Grand Street, Negombo.
Subashinee Deepa the coordinator of SVFWO while welcoming the group said, "We all need to understand the efforts of civil society to bring sustainable fisheries and agriculture through policy formulation. We all need to come forward as women in the society to address those issues."
There are number of issues emerged after the presentation of Voluntary Guidelines on Small Scale Fisheries (VGSSF) the participants raised the concerns and their issues,
* Cut off the Samurdhi welfare scheme for some families
* Lack of deeds for the people who got the land from government scheme
* Sanitary facilities for the poor people
Those issues were discussed thoroughly and agreed to mediate as follows:
a. Formation of a committee to mediate the land, sanitation and samurdhi welfare scheme,
b. Reactivate the Lagoon Conservation Committee with the participation of representatives of the villages,
c. Discuss the issues related to overall organization matters on 19th October AGM of SVFWO.
