Mannar district Fisheries Solidarity organized the FS Campaign at Ganodayam at Thalvupadu in Mannar today. Distribution of leaflets and reform document, food sovereignty posters and the introduction of northern province fisheries development program and validate it, collect the information for agriculture development policy were some of the activities conducted.
Herman explained our activities to change the govt. and were able make a difference.
However, Helen Amma of Pallimunai said, "we agree there is a change and now we can open our mouths. No body fear now. But we will feel real change when we get our land back to our own."
Most in the group agreed to what Helen amma said. And they felt as the collective work of the group gave us the strength.
Pabiola, the leader of Valarpirai women organization said "Now we can pressurize the DS-The divisional secretary and get his services. We were able to push him to get him to the land area where we wanted him to distribute among us. He agreed to that and will distribute the land among landless which is a big victory for us."
These are victories of the land struggle of our women groups hence we need to celebrate them.
The issues and solutions emerged from the group will be sent to compile the final agriculture and fisheries policy documents. These policy documents will be presented to the relevant policy makers on 16 th at the food sovdreignty final rally on world food day.
