Proposed 2013 Seed and plant breeding act is on hold and not to take up for a moment with the resistance of farmers and probably with the Presidential election ahead of us.
However, it is not totally removed from the schedules of the govt. The MNCs are attempting to take all possible efforts to sell their chemicals and fertilizers while promoting to change the policies which are affecting the food systems inluding the policies on seed productions.
There is no difference in SL as our govt is ready to cater these needs of the MNCs. We are working on Reform agenda in which fisheries and agriculture reform policy formulation is in our priorities of the agenda.
Seed caravan is important civil society mobilization as farmer and fisher groups collaborate closely on this.
The seed caravan will begin from north on 11th October which will be ended on 16th October commemorating World Food(less) Day activities at Colombo.
At the same time NAFSO will launch a campaign in fishing areas starting from Hambanthota along the cities of Matara, Galle and eventually reach to Colombo on 16th October.
