SL fishers are well known of illegal fishing all around the Indian Ocean. However, there are some factors beyond fishermen's control would affect the fisher people's life and their livelihoods.
We received disturbing news about arrests of 3 SL fishing vessels in Myanmar and another 2 vessels at Tuticorine with 12 fishermen
in India. There are altogether 27 fishers arrested and held in both the countries and need urgent assistance. Once the family members approached us for the assistance we contact our Indian counterpart who is attending such matters in Tamil Nadu.
There are lot to do for find speedy solution for the issue as safety and welfare is not the priority in the government agenda.
