Northern Fishers on strike against permits to Indian trawlers

Northern Province Fisher People's Unity launched province wide campaign against the government proposals to give permission for Indian trawlers to fish two days in Sri Lankan waters.
N.M.Alam the chairperson of northern province fisher people's unity said, "We strongly reject the proposed action to permit Indian trawlers operate in our waters. We are a sivereign country and we do not allow to violate our right to livelihoods by neighboring country."
In a previous meeting Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has told the media, "We will not allow Indian trawlers to operate not two days per week. but not even two minutes a week."

Quoting Minister Amaraweera, Subramaniyam told at the gathering, "Minister's'doesn't know what they say as there is no collective decision. Because whem some thing said by a minister, the other minister say totally opposite. We the citizens become victims." 

Northern province fisheries minister Dineshwaran reassured that he is with the people as all of the concerns raised by the fishers are his concerns too. 

"You gave us the power to govern the province and expect lot. With limited powers we are with the people and find ways to address them."

NPFPU handed over a memorandums to governer's office, district secretary and chief minister's office with 6 demands including forceful migration and occupation of north by southern fishermen which distrurb their lives and livelihoods.
