The northern province fisher leaders ecpect to form wider possible platform after realizing the formation of northern province fisher people's unity alone is not adequate to address their issues.
The concept note is drafted and met individual cooperative federation leaders, DFEO's in 4 districts in northern province as well as the fisheries minister northern province and shared printed document with first orientation given last June. The next step was to bring all the leaders and members to educate it collectively. The in-depth awareness program conducted at Vavunia last week with those who invited to the NPFPU general body.
Antony Jesudasan shared the concept note and said, "We are aiming at to address 6 major issues collectively including Indian trawl issue and southern migration. However these are not the only issues we need to mediate. We expect to address women's issues, Coatal displacement, destructive fishing, land and livelihood issues of those in northern coastal districts."
Minister Dineshwaran has agreed to give the political leadership to the platform as a political commitment to his fellow citizens. Added Jesudasan.
