Colombo Port city construction activities are moving ahead amidst people's resistance. To silence the people's voice and the resistance another meeting organizes yesterday at Jubilee hall, Grand Street Church yesterday.
The main aim is to identify possible livelihood assistance programs under the allocated Rs. 500 as announced earlier.
The assistant director Mr. Ranjith Bandara expected fishermen to express their views how to utilize the funds allocated. "We want your views how to compensate the fisher families those would affect their livelihoods."
The response from the fishers were not satisfactory to the government officials present there.
"We want to continue our normal fishing practices and no any compensation package for fishermen. After all we know how any of the schemes with money matters implemented. There can not be any difference with this.
Most importantly we dont want to disturb our only livelihoods at any cost."
This was the main voice in the audience and people opposed the compensation package strongly.
