NAFSO team met Pitiwella Community at Rathgama, Galle last week to see the current situation of Pitiwella housing project. NAFSO bought a land and built 12 houses for tsunami survivors in Rathgama DS area with the funding support of Peche & Development organization of France. They approached NAFSO for assist tsunami survivors at Galle as Allen le San of Peche & Development visited Southern Fisheries Organization-Galle with a delegation of ICSF there in August 2004.
Indrani, one of a community leader at Pitiwella community appreciated the assistance of Peche & Development through NAFSO.
"We will build our community hall here with the contribution of community members. However we welcome any possible support from govt or any well wishers of the community."
Channa de Silva, our field activist at Galle shared some difficulties they face to organise the community.
"Alcoholism of some community members destroy the whole community spirit here. We are trying to overcome this difficulty with get them involve the dialogue in the community which is not successful at this moment."
However, Indrani says, "We do need to get all members to have united voice to face our challenges. So, we can not left behind any one in the community."
