The movement for release of Political prisoners held a press briefing today after detained the announcement of the release of political prisoners again. There were 31 political prisoners detained again after brought to the Colombo court saying there is no legal direction from the attorney general department. There were lot of hopes among the detainees to bail out today.
Srinath Perera, human rights lawyet, a convener of release of political prisoners emphasised at the press briefing today that the injustice should not continue as previous government did.
"This is the sililar type of military action of Mahinda Rajapakse military regime. We say this is an extension of the military action. There should be a political decision taken by Maitri -Ranil regime to release all the political prisoners immediately if the government genuinely expect to have reconciliation."
The media announced at the afternoon that there are 31 political prisoners were bail out at the same court today.
Priyadarshanie Ariyaratne, civil and political activist said at the press briefing that, "as a person who worked to defeat Mahinda Rajapakse regime, I would like to demand strongly from the government to treat the Tamil political without indifference to other political prisoners in the south on 1971 and 1989. They were released on the ground of political prisoners at that time. So why not the Tamil political prisoners release on the similar grounds? "
