Leaders of NPFPU convened a press briefing after the general body meeting at Yarlpad hotel today. Several fisher leaders i cluding chairperson Alam, Secretary Subramaniyam, coop chair Ratnarasa a eader from Senthankulam and Inpanayagam, the coordinator Jaffa district fisheries solidarity addressed the press.
"We faced serious difficulties than before as now new barrikades are set up by the military. This situation put us down further. New security system caused the difficulties to our livelihoods." Said the leader from Senthankulam fisher community.
"We did not expect this much of harassments from good governance government. We wanted a change anf NAFSO also supported to this idea through various ways." added the fisher leader.
At the press briefing Alam the chairperson of NPFPU said, "NPFPU had decided to intervene for the formation of Palk bay management platform. We want to approach the northern province fisheries minister to get his commitment to the management platform idea."
Hiwever, thare should be better cooperation among all potential stake holdrrs."
Inpanayagam, the coorddinator of Jaffna district fisheries solidarity invited to all concern paryies to WFD and said " We invite all possible participants to World Fisheries Day celebrations at Ilankei Venthan arts school in Jaffna."
We want to make it historical one.
