The Nesakaram citizen committee at Mannar district has launched a Shramadana Campaign[Free Labour for common good] today at District Hospital at Mannar.
The Nesakaram citizen committee consist of 6 village based focus groups which facilitated by Active Citizenship Development Network and representatives from those villages formed the citizen committee.
In one of a monthly meeting the group decided to conduct a Shramadana campaign as a strong unity and solidarity of the communities and the patients. The surrounding of the hospital covered with bushes and wild plants and needed a clearance because of the Dengue epidemic also spread in Mannar area seriously.
NAFSO admin secretary and PPD coordinator attended the program representing NAFSO.
Pradeep Wanigasuriya, the Admin Sec of NAFSO shared about this experience as one of the strong unity among the communities and the cooperation and support received from the neighborhood communities as well as from the hospital staff is overwhelming.
"This is very unique experience for us. The hospital staff, SL Red Cross, Nesakaram citizen committee members, Valarpirai Women Committee members, Youth from the YMCA and many other groups came together."
We are happy to be part of the process as the recognition and trust built through the work is so high." added Pradeep.
