SAAPE Country Coordination Committee met Comrades of SAAPE Secratariat

The Sri Lankan Country Coordination Committee (CCC) of SAAPE met yesterday at Colombo with Dr.Netra and Prerna Bonzon of SAAPE secretariat. The team met after the Round Table Dialogue on Land rights of coastal communities and Tourism which was organized by NAFSO.
The main subject areas we discussed were;
* the post election context of Sri Lanka and the policy changes after that,
* the tragic situation of Nepal after 25th April earth quake with the magnitude of richter 8.4,
* the introduction to SAAPE process evolvement in 2002 in Sri Lanka and the Core Committee, the CCC proposed at the last Core Committee meeting,
* schedule of CC of SAAPE on 8-10 August in Sri Lanka.
Netra, the coordinator of SAAPE explained how CC process would evolve and the importance of organizing similar kind of dialogue on land rights in the context of food sovereignty, women rights or peace and demilitarization activity which are major campaigns identified across the South Asian region under SAAPE.
Prerna Bomzon, women comrade of SAAPE secretariat has commend the Round Table Dialogue saying, " it is really encouraging to see how the leaders of affected communities were able to raise their strong voices against the hoteliers attempt to suppress the rights violations of the affected communities."
"We can understand how Herman's life threats were emerged as a result of his leading role played against the land grabbing and other harmful practices to the communities in hand hand between politicians and the hoteliers." Added Prerna.
