The Sri Vimukthi Women general body met yesterday at Jubilee hall, Negombo. Subashiniw and Vincent the coordinator and the activist asked me to talk about the Street campaign we organize on the 19th, the Change with Reforms campaign. The same campaign now concluded in Kandy, Anuradhaoura, Rajanganaya, Kurunegala, Hakmana and Matara by now. Next lag will be at Chilaw, Negombo, Colombo, Hambantota, Galle, and Kalutara.
The organizing team is now planning to convene a mass gathering in Colombo on 10th July.
It was emerging issue in Negombo about the threat of close down some major facilities of Negombo base hospital and demote to a district hospital claiming the main newly built building is about to fell down and threat to the lives of patients. Recently it was reported some patients were transferred to Colombo hospital and to Ragama teaching hospital.
At the same time, one of my friend, a surgeon of the Negombo hospital told me,
"There is a danger to transfer the staff of hospital to Minuwangoda hospital which was built recently and demote Negombo hospital from base hospital to district hospital." He urged to do some practical action to voice out against this injustices.
Sri Vimukthi women, most are having services from Negombo hospital said at the general body meeting, "we all are getting benefits from our hospital. We will not allow it to close down."
"We will save our hospital at any cost. How the poor people like us go to Colombo or Ragama hospitals for our health services. This is a crime to close the hospital. " added angry voices of women at the general body meeting.
The general body of Sri Vimukthi unianimously decided to act against this injustices directly come on to their head. The street campaign continues.
