Last 11th February the Cabinet of Ministers which chaired by Hon. Maitripala Sirisena the President of Sri Lanka decided to release the 340 captured land by military from Raigamwela and Shastrawela communities at Paanama. When the people approached to get their land back the military petsonel as well as the government agents in the area has responded negatively saying, "we are not informed to whom should return the land. We can not identify the real owners of the land."
When this was revealed by Somasiri, the organizer of Paanam Pattu Surakeeme Sanvidsnaya at the June PARL meeting the PARL team decided to collect information and submit the authorities to assert their land.
Today Hon. President has visited Muhudu Maha Viharaya at Pothuwil and the Rev. Buddhist Monk, Somasiri and leaders handed over the proof as the prepared documents to the president Maitripala at the function at Pothuwil.
Few days ago I reported my colleague Raajan, coordinator of Praja Abilasha land rights network involvement to prepare this document with the support of Sajeewa Chamikara, director Environmental Conservation Trust. We are expecting immediate attention of President and his directions to his officials to take speedy action for settle the land dispute soon.
