"We Face a Crisis of Ocean Governance" Orang R Young, the key note speaker at inauguration of MARE Conference in Amsterdam

The MARE The Man and the Sea viii conference conduct 25-27 June in Amsterdam university in NL.
Dr. Orang R Young at his key note address mentioned the crisis of ocean governance is mainly based on 3 major areas;
# Over harvesting
# Marine pollution
# Global change/ Climate Change

# The over harvesting covers the fully exploitation, over exploiting or declining of fish stocks,

# On marine pollution he emphasized;
* the externalities or social costs problems
* dead zones due to pesticides, chemical fertilizers and plastic pollution is growing.

# Global change/ Climate change
* an earth system problem
* Ocean health index

As solutions to these issues some strategies proposed are;
1. External coastal states juricdictions,
2.  Strengthen spatialy/ functionally defined regimes
3. Create larger system of marine reserves
4. Establish global monitoring mechanisms

As a conclusion he came up with following ideas;
! A sea of problems rather overarching crisis
! An array of competing and proposalfor how toaddress problems
! Overarching threat of CC which is not specifically a matter of ocean governance.
