The northern province fisher leaders meet Provincial Fisheries Minister

The northern province fisher people's unity leaders met Mr. Dineshwaran, the northern province fisheries minister on small scale fisher peoole's issues.
The representatives from Mannar, Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mulaitivu were present under the leadership of A.M. Alam and S. Subramaniyam.
The main issues discussed were;
* The Indian trawler issue and people to people discussions,
* The local trawlers and permits for operations,
* The southern fishermen invasion with the political backing
* Illegal and destructive fishing in every part of the province

Mr. Dineshwaran responded to fisher leaders demands and said; "We will meet Mr. Modi once he visit SL this month and hand over a petition to him on Indian fishermen issue. At the same time action will be taken after meeting the fisheries minister of central government and with the mediation of additional directors of fisheries, the illegal destructive fisheries and internal trawling issue will be solved too."
Mr. Alam, the chair of the northern province fisher people's unity wanted to get register the organisation. The fisheries minister agreed to provide assistance to get registration within a month.
At the mean time attending a TV interview and responding to a question on Indian trawler poaching in SL waters, Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe,the PM of SL said "There will not be any problem of killing or arresting if the Indian fishermen operate their own waters allowing northern province fishermen in SL to operate our side of territorial waters".
However, he admitted some incidents of HR violations took place during the war as there were some arm transportation took place and navy attempted to stop them during the war."
