"Stop Port City Project Now!" Say environmentalists and fisher groups

There was an indepth discussion over government decision to continue the China Port City Project at Galle Face. China Communication Construction Company carry out the constructions with out any hindrance even after the election on 8th January. Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, the cabinet spokesperson in a press briefing said, "Govt has decided to continue to construction of China Port City."
However, the then opposition leader now Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe speaking to media prior to election said"we will stop the port city construction" and now says " we have appointed a cabinet committee to study the project under my chairmanship".
Dr. Rajitha, however recently again said they will continue the project.
The fisher groups, environmental groups, religious leaders and many trade unions are strongly protest the govt stand and demand to STOP the PORT CITY PROJECT IMMEDIATELY.
Aruna Roshantha of Fisher people's trade union, Raveendra Kariyawasam, environmental organization representative and also Fr. Sarath Iddamalgoda from CSM were among others attended the press briefing which was held in CSR, Maradana today.

  1. Does anyone take into account the fact that Sri lLanka has suffered the highest number of earth slips in documented history in the last 2 years. Ask any one who travels upcountry how hills have been razed to the ground and mountains no longer exist. Looking at the mountains of rubble dumped to date into the sea are they hoping to wipe out all our hills? what devastation to families livelihoods, agriculture tea tourism etc. Isn't this like killing the goose......
