Sampur families were invited to show their lands once the PARL had organized a protest in Colombo last Thursday. The people those who supposed to attend from Sampur as they werevinformed the relocate the Navy camp and hand over the land back to the original families.
Just after the Cabinet decision last Year February people had the courage to settle in the lands. Most of the families among 235 resettled got the support from UNHCR to build thier temporary shelter. At the same time those who settled last November and early January 2016, they are starting agriculture activities in thier lands by now.
These people are expecting to get back their original ands which government promised to give back. But still in February this year the military camp was not relocated and still remain there. Fisher people got their access for fishing but limited space was given so far.
People who gathered at Colombo cried their land rights including Sampur people as they expected the resetlement with their dignity and respect as human beings.
