"We know the Depth of the Oppression under regime in the North" say fisher leaders

The leaders of Northern Province Fisher People's Unity (NPFPU) who met at Vavunia discussed the issue of the betrayal of the IDP's struggle on land issue on 15th July in Jaffna.
The chairperson of NPFPU Mr. K. Suriyakumaran had given a press statement on the Land struggle saying "NAFSO is attempting to instigate people unnecessarily, while GOSL is taking all possible steps to solve people's issues in the north. We are not supporting to this campaign and ask people to not to attend the protest."
At Vavumia meeting yesterday, the leaders attended from various northern districts highly criticised Suriyakumar's action. They said he was bought. Bribed with some hopes. Not threatned.

However, immediately after we noticed the news paper article at Thinamurusu, on 13th July, we approached Siriyalumar and inquired why he gave this statement he said, "I was abducted in the mid night and taken to Minister Dougles Devananda's office and there were media people in side and i was forced to give a statement."
Last year around December, Suriyakumar's son was abducted and kept some where and deserted two days later.
Even after that incident neither Suriyakumar nor his son gave a statement to media about what happened to him.
It is understand that any one can open the mouth if you take the side of the oppressors only.
When we inquired about why he gave such nausty statement from Suriyakumar he said "it is because Tholar Devananda I saved my life that night. I did not have any other way."
The leaders who gathered at the NPFPU meeting had lot of interpretations about Suriyakumar's such behaviour against people's struggles. Lot of hated voice was raised against these actions of Suriyakumar.
But one should understand the situation.  No one can survive unless you follow what the regime and military guide you to do.
Finally, the NPFPU leaders decided, "We all are living in the same oppression and there is no exception to Suriyakumar. Today he is the victim and tomorrow some one else among us. So, we need not to hate him and as he is also victim of the oppression."

We umderstand the importance of all oppressed people united and no point of create divisions among us.
