There was a press nriefing aganst the attemot to abduction of the chairperson of Bar Association Upul Jayasuriya today at Nippon Hotel at Colombo.
The lawyers, university teachers, trade union leaders, civil society leadership representing thousadns of millions of workers and ptofessionals attended the media briefing today.
The chairperson of the Federation of University Teahers Association (FUTA) Chandraguptha Thenuwara said, "We are day by day moving towards and proving that we are living in the authoritarian country. But it is role of citizens to challenge it."
The senior advocate and convener of Platform for Freedom C. Weliamuna said, "There are two ways of ruling this country. One way is rewarding those who are repeating what regime says. The other is threatening to dissent. But intimidations won't help to continue."
The health trade union leader, Saman Rathnapriya said, "We will continue this struggle even with all these intimidations. We will gather at the Hulfdorfs Courts on 21st Monday at noon protesting against all types of intimidations in the country, very specifically against Bar association chairperson's case of attempt to abduct him."
Day by day the regime creating opportunities one after the other to fight unitedly throgh oppression. This is a good message to people in the country who think good out from the regime.
