Today we celebrated international workers day jointly among FTZ workers, fishers, plantation workers and women at Aweriwatta junction, at Katunayake. There were 600 workers marched together displaying banners, posters, plackards and chanting slogans.

The march began from 18th mile post at Colombo- Puttlam highway which marched 3Km along the FTZ and ended up at Aweriwatta junction.
Commemoration of Roshen Chanaka, the slain FTZ worker during the private pension bill campaign in 2011 was done offering flowers by Roshen's mother and organization leaders at the begining of the rally. Women leaders of Women's center, Da Bindu, Sri Vimukthi, FTZ worker and leaders from NAFSO and R2L were delivered speeches at the rally.
All the speakers emphasise the necessity to continue the unity and solidarity emerged from the May day celebrations to face and challenģe the all forms of oppression against the workers.
There will no future unless working class come together and resist their rights violations. This was the case of Pension bill struggle in May 2011, Fuel price hike struggle in February 2012, Protest against Rathupaswala water issue in June 2013, and many more. All these cases people who agitated in those struggles had sacrificed their
Lives.

Panama, Sampur, Mullikulam, Valikamam north, fishers and farmer communities have been demanding their land back. But so far nothing heard by the authorities. So it is only the struggle is the only way to get the land back with all possible peaceful means.
Plantation workers expect to fulfil the promises made by president at the 2011 budget speech to give the barren land to plantation workers who have been living in the plantations for generations with out any ownership of land.
We expect there will be further oppression once people demand their basic needs and rights which we need to face them collectively.
