The professional Web journalist's association had submitted a petition to Human Rights commission registering their protest against the blocking of Sri Lanka Mirror web site and Sri Lankan Indepenent web sites last week.
Freddy Gamage, convener of professional
association said that "GOSL has blocked 8 web sites for the past years and this is really unjust situation."
There were several political party leaders attended the event and Thissa Attanayake, General Secretary of UNP has said, "there are some matters to hide the GOSL unless there is no reason to block the web site. However we are not tolerate the violation of right to information of people."
"On what grounds the GOSL block the web sites? Do they have any legal provisions to do so?" asked Dr.Vickramabhu Karunaratne at the media briefing yesterday.
NAFSO as an organisation which is concern about the democratic reforms of the country attended the event as a solidarity measure.
