We can not forget the role played by Rev. Bandiwewe Diyasena thero on many fisher people's issues during the past years. The major engagement on fisher people's issues by the Thero was the Hunger Fast to bring back the Sri Lankan fishermen who were kept in the prison in Andaman island more than a year.
Rev. Bandiwewe Thero's involvement helped to bring the fishermen back home which created lot of threats to him and it was extended up to put him in the jail for few weeks in February and March 2013. There was a mud slinging campaign using State media was launched by fisheries authorities including the minister him self.
The situation was so serious and he faced serious death threats from various people as he engaged not only fisheries but also many other Human Rights issues all over the country.
Rev. Bandiwewe Diyasena is one of a Buddhist Monk very much articulate among others who is attempting to live with Buddhist principles. He preach Equality and Justice to Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim people in this country.
Even he is out of the country for short period, he is delivering his services to the people in needy in neighboring countries too.
Last week, he has conducted a books and clothes donation campaign among most needy children in India. We pay our homage and pray to Rev. Bandiwewe Diyasena to continue his services to the poor, marginalized and needy in when and where ever possible.
