At the dialogue with the women leaders of Sri Vimukthi organization, the women leader Nirmala Fernando, one of the most senior leader of the organization shared her 15 years of experience of Sri Vimujthi and said,
"We began our work with tears in our eyes as our husbands were kept in Indian jails long period. With the help of NAFSO leadership we were able to build our organization in the year 2000 which lead to get release our beloved ones from Indian jails. At that time, We did not have any facilities. Even we did not have a chair. No place to meet. We sat on the grass at Church ground with NAFSO leaders and discussed our strategies and organized our selves. Unless we had committed to the issue, the release of the fishers would have delayed years. That is the spirit we carry in the history of the Sri Vimukthi. So we continue the spirit in our genes and commit to the people whom need our support."
Adding to her long history of the involvement of the organization, Nirmala shared how she worked hand in hand with the women in the simillar expefience, "We were able to work hand in hand with Thoduwawa, Kalpitiya, Beruwala, Kalutara and women from Trincomalee too. The facilitation was done by NAFSO. That is why we consider NAFSO as our mother organization. The unity was built around the solidarity and the leadership."
We will continue this strength uniting with national and international organizations. Added Nirmala at the meeting today.
