Irudeniyaya people say NO to electrict fence at Irudeniyaya

The Irudeniyaya people launched a protest today demanding to STOP the electrict fence which is proposed by Wild Life department. The campaigners demanded not to divide their 21 villages in the agriculture scheme by constructing electrct fence for elephant corridor. Campaigners further said this effort will bring further destruction to their people as elephants will encroached their lands while walking along the corridor.
Wild life department is planning to build elephant corridor connecting Kahalla Pallakele forest and Hakwatunawa reservoir.
Sampath Jayawardene, the field activist of Praja Sahayogitha Organization said' "People do not want to give up their struggle and give their land for tourism. Elephant corridor means to promote tourism and to displace communities at Irudeniyaya."
Abesekara, a leader at Irudeniyaya campaign said, "Five thousand farmers came to street today to demonstrate their anger against liars. The current Wild life minister ironically then the food security  minister promised us not to build  the elephant corridor and now strongly attempt to build the same. We will never allow to build this at any cost."
There will  be an applintment given by wild life minister on 23rd for the community.
