Food Sovereignty campaign launched

Food sovereignty campaign launched islandwide by MONLAR, SAVISTRI & NAFSO with the aim of spread the principals of food sovereignty.
An introductory session was held at Colombo with media representatives.

The main aim of the campaign is to socialize the food sovereignty concept. The right to decide what to eat by the consumers and how the food producers should produce food, what technology we need to use in which model they use for produce food how those products distribute among consumets etc should be discussed.

The people's caravan 2015 will be launched in all the provinces based on the farmers organizations, fisheries organizations, plantation organizations and women's organizations across the country.

Chinthaka Rajapakse the moderator of MONLAR said, "the Peoples Caravan 2015 is an extended action of 2014 caravan. We want to address the issues of small scale food producers. However, there should be collective efforts to address them as small scale food producers. The food sovereignty campaign is an effort to bring all these forces together." 

K. P. Somalatha of SAVISTRI women organization, Sajeewa Chamikara of Environmental Conservation Trust and Herman Kumara of NAFSO also addressed the media briefing held at national library auditorium in Colombo.
