The families of disappearances commemorated the 25th anniversary of the disappearances today in BMICH with the participation of hundreds of parents, loved ones and many more.
Brito Fernando while welcoming the gathering said, "We were unable to raise our voice when our brothers and sisters disappeared in the south in 1989. At the same time we were enjoyed while northern brothers and sisters disappearing in 2005-2009. This was our tragedy in our society. We need to fight for justice for not to rscurrence the enforced disappearances."
The families are still hope for their family members to return home. Most of them are holding the photograph of their disappeared person to tell others how they Love to the family member and that they are still hope for their return.
There were several family members shared their feelings, their sorrows, their anger against the perpetrators.
"We don't want any international mechanisms if our own President and Prime Minister make justice based on truth." A mother who came from Ampara who is a mother of disappeared person shared with the gathering.
Dr. M. Ganeshan, a psychatric who had served 6 years in Batticoloa during the war period in his presentation shared;
"This is not about war. This is the responsibilities of the government. Government should give space to emerge. When the truth is not available people loss their trust whether there will be justice prevail. So that is the reason why people expect external forces to intervene."
"When justice is deny the people are in anger, frustration, hatred and revenge. This is why Tamil people feel they are feeling they are second class citizens." Added Dr. Ganeshan at the gathering of the commemoration.
