Jackfruit one of the most common fruit, food in our SL society today. This is grown and no effort take the yield. However, the jak is grown everywhere in SL which freely available for poor people.
Somasiri and me are in Bamboobag village in Wayanad in Kerala attending Sustainable Community Tourism experience. The host family head Daniel and Reena are proud of their engagement on Jakfruit food production engagement as the village organizers.
As Daniel proudly shared with Somasiri and me they are one pioneers the jak production. He mediated to bring local domestic industries minister for jakfruit ceremony in June.
The jackfruit production exhibition was also organized by the village community which exhibited and sold the various food items. "Every year we organize the Jackfruit festival is now culturaly integrated and important occassion in our community" says Daniel.
"This is important matter if we learn those food made out if jack. If we learn this most of the Jak wasted in Siyambaladuwa, Buththala and Moneragala areas." Says Somasiri who is my conpanion in the journey today.
It is true as Daniel and Reena my host family shared they produce Jak byriyani, Jack jam, Jack juice, Jack Kurma and many more food products from the Jackq and seeds.
"In fact the browinish coat of the jack seed is having anti cancer matterial" Daniel shared his knowledge.
For the community tourist initiative of KABANI- The Other Direction, Jak festival is one area of tourism attraction too.
At the same time the experience with communitg tourism is an important factor for take Somasiri and me to share with our colleagues who engage tourism practices. In fact 5 villages in Somasiri's area has been selected for community tourism.
