District planning fisheries meeting held at Kilinochchi

Today the follow up meeting of the district fisheries plan preparation was held at Nachchikudah at Kilinochchi district.
The Poonerin fisheries cooperative federation which is lead by Francis Joseph  organized the meeting.
He was in the opinion that this is very important for the future of fishing communities.
"We wanted to create our space for fishinng communities in the north. We did not have space during the last 30 years. It is good opportunity for us to think beyond the Indian trawler issue. Now we plan our future collectively as the Northern Province Fisheries Unity." Said Francis Joseph.
Antony Jesudasan, the PPD Coordinator of NAFSO said that "Our plan is to mobilize northern fishers to work with southern fisher communities and demand our rights in collaborative manner."
"We are working hard in the created democratic space." Added Jesudasan.
The northern fisher groups are planning to submit overall northern province development plan to northern province chief minister and the central government in the month of July.
