"Unless we find a solution to ethnic issue there is no future for the country" says Sirithunge Jayasuriya, the leader of the United Socialist Party, at the seminar conducted at Colombo on A political solution to ethnic issue. "We do not have a trust that the capitalist parties can solve the ethnic issue." Says Sirithunge.
We can see the defeated president Mahinda find a way to come into power using ethnic chaunism. This create big tension and widen the gap between Sinhala and Tamil groups. Even the newly elected President Maitri and Prime Minister Ranil expect to become Sinhala Buddhists by passing Mahinda which can not be happened in this country. Added Sirithunge.
"When we talk about ethnic reconciliation
No one can deny the importance of Plantation community." Although there are certain rules and regulations. On land under land reform commission there should be minimum of 40 perches land for landless people. Violating those regulations it is only 7 perches land will be given to plantation community which is a discrimination." Says Fr. Sathiwel, longlasting advocate on rights of plantation community at the seminar today.
"In Sri Lanka we have only ethnic issue. But not racial issue. There is a ethnicity built up in a recent past. When Tamil capitalists strongly build up and they expect to have their entity."
Vickramabahu Karunaratne, leader of Nawa Sama samaja Party said at the seminar.
