United Fisher Peoples' Front, the fisher people's political party established yesterday with the participation of the Thalawila, Kandakuliya, Battalangunduwa, Chilaw, Thoduwawa, Kandakuliya, Negombo and Munnakkaraya fishers.
Rev. Bandiwewe Diyasena thero was the main force behind the scene while Antony Fonseka the chairperson of Battalangunduwa fisheries coop society was also in the fore front.
"We do hope we can raise our voice with policy makers if we have a political party run by fishermen. We need not to go behind any one after this". Diyasena thero shared while inspiring participants at the occassion.
"We will temporary elect our leadership as we need to register our party before the next election. We will meet again on 27th April to officially inagurate the party." Said Antony Fonseka at the meeting..
Loyel Peiris, the coordinator, Puttlam district fisheries solidarity said; "today is a historic day for fishermen. When we use Dolphin as the symbol of the party, it says we selected the most intelligent animal in the sea.
There were more than 50 attended the session and all agreed to commit to build up the party while bringing members to the party.
