Newly elected Maithree govt proposed 100 days program aiming at to build a new country during the election campaign which was attracted by the citizen of the country and voted 6.4 million people supporting the program.
"100 days program for a New Country"
There were number of programs to provide benefits to the communities. At the interim budget as well as even prior to the budget, the fuel price went down substantially. It was 101 LKR per Kerosene liter at the time of election and after two reductions it has reduced up to 59 LKR which is huge gain and well feel by small scale fishermen those who operate FRP out board engines. So fishermen feel good about these development. However there is long way to go for satisfy people's aspirations. So it is very good that civil society on alert.
Today it is 50th day of the 100 days program. A face to face interactive dialogue between CSOs and some responsible persons of the govt organized today at Sri Lanka foundation in Colombo.
This was an attempt to evaluate the progress and criticize the weaknesses in order to rectify them immediately and run the proper track within rest of 50 days.
The movement for a just society facilitated this dialogue and more than 300 people attendedl the gathering today event in Colombo.
At the gathering Dr. Rajitha Senarathne, the health minisrer of Maitri govt said
"The civil society groups who joined for
the change should be united as this is the time to build the country. Also on ethnic issue there will be found a solution soon. Because all citizens in this country should live in dignity and protection. We will not allow any "Balakaya" or "Sena" to oppress any ethnic or religious group any more. So we need work unitedly."
Brito Fernando, convener of Veediye Virodaya while moderating the session said, "there are 6.4 million expected a change. Now the elected govt has the responsibility to prove that they make the change. It is the responsibility of the government to prove a substantial change to the hearts and minds of the citizens of this country."
The cso representatives who attended the session was not convinced the level of speed the govt pay their attention on actions against the corruption charges of previous regime. However in his speech Dr. Rajitha said, "if there are charges against me, I urge to complain and take actions against me."
However, there will be long way to go to take actions against corrupt politicians. Rajitha Senarathne was accused by Galabodaatthe Gnasara thero accused Rajitha owning some vessels with the worth of 600 million LKR. Rajitha Senaratne did say he will take legal action at that time and no information about legal action against the monk.
Anyway, we want as CSO to take legal action against all corrupted politicians and remove from the politics. But the issue is how to send them out of politics as no proofs.
