NAFSO and it's partners in Northern districts submitted a program proposal for empower women through income generation activities; "Enhancement of social acceptance and empowerment of women headed families(WHF) in northern province".
The proposal was submitted to Mr. Sundaralingam, the program officer of the Chief Minister of the province by Lavina Hasanthi, the gender and development coordinator of NAFSO.
Ms. Jeyachitra, the field coordinator of Jaffna district organization shared how they selected the program participants in 7 IDP camps and 2 villages where they engage fiels activities. The beneficiaries were selected with the participation of Leaders of Poonthalar women group, distdict committee leaders of fisheries, citizen committe leadership and some retired government officials who volunteering the social work.
Mr. Inpanayagam, district coordinator of NAFSO said the long term engagement of NAFSO on the building most marginalized groups in war affected areas where 800 families benefitted in north and eastern province activities.
"We were frightened to work in the fields in camps as military and inteligent services monitored and followed us all the time. Our biggest worry was to get the people engage on development activities as they were scared to engage." Inpanayagam added.
