The fisheries organizations, human rights groups, women's organizations, trade unions and various CBOs around the country got together to discuss Fisheries sector Reform Proposals today at NAFSO.
This was historic achievement as we were able to identify major areas for policy change and action. The proposals were based on the context of food sovereignty and building up strong people base to assert the rights.
The event was organized just after few days of EU banning the import of SL fishery products to their territories. The team raised the concerns of relationship between Chinese Fishing vessels and EU ban.
Any how this is a big step forward in the Reform process as Fisheries is the first sector prepared the sector report and finalized. Women doc discussed last week and yet to finalize. Health sector document will be done on 30 th Lead by Peoples Health Movement. Hopefully other sectors will be done by the month of November.
