Indian trawlers are threat to our livelihoods

The Indian fishermen has been plundering SL water through pair trawls and over exploite our resources. Indian trwals use high technology which is harmful to the resources hence banned this in SL. At the very begining the dialogues between Indian and SL fishermen were facilitated by NAFSO.
However, now we have pushed behind with the similar process began after the ministry of fisheries involves in it.
There were several dialogues between the fishermen both countries happened with out success.
In August 2010 NAFSO lead process came up with a solution which restricted the invasion of Indian trawlers.

However, SL authorities did not respect our agreement and threw it to waste. Once the MoF engage the facilitation the dialogue now the Indian fishers expects another 3 years to phase out from SL waters.

There is no any agreement arrived at so far and the dialogues became deadlock. What we can see now is that both Delhi and Colombo government do not want to find an immediate and lasting solution.

We all are awaiting to see what is the next move of the governments. But one thing is clear. That is the victims of all these delays are the northern fishers who suffered 30 years of brutal war will push further down.
