"Our aim is to find collective effort to Mekong River riparian communities: Says country presenters at SSF Guidelines WS

Mekong river provides livelihoods over millions of people across the 6 countries in the region. Being the 12th longest river in the world, the Mekong biodiversity is second to Amazon river. There are diverse cultural, ethnic, religions in the Mekong region with more than 398 languages around the area.
Mekong region is well known as the "Rice Bowl of Asia" with Lao's as the second highest  number of rice species  which is second to only India. Along the Mekong river there are 1110 fresh water fish species highlight the importance of the Mekong river.
However, the number of dams being constructed in almost all the countries for hydro power generation or plantations. The disturbance the free flow of water had caused damage to the eco system and aquatic environment.

All the presenters those who presented the country reports highlighted the importance of a common strategy to sustain the Mekong river as well as the the communities depending on the Mekong river.
