The Citizen Forum meeting held in Polpithigama yesterday. The N/W provincial councilor, chairperson of Polpithigama Regional Council together with his fellow councilors at the meeting.
The land issues related to the Irudeniyaya agricultural scheme, water issues on Hakwatunawa irrigation scheme, elephant corridor and the Human Elephant coexistence issues were discussed at the citizen forum.
The group attended at the meeting agreed to continue their efforts to gain the land rights, the legal ownership of the land and to protect Kahalla -Pallakele forest reserve as a means of environmental protection.
Sampath Jayawardene, the field activist of Praja Sahayogitha forum at Polpithigama said, "We need to come together as regional citizen forum. We have enough courage to work the issues related to our life and livelihoods. Now people are united as citizen forum and we continuously fight on this."
People are ready to go forward and need some basic facilitation. Added Sampath at the Citizen Forum meeting.
