4th Commemoration of Assasinated FTZ Worker Roshen Chanaka!

Roshen Chanaka was the Martyr of the workers struggle against the proposed Private Sector Pension which was the plan to utilize the EPF fund for use as the then government expected.
Though there were series of discussions to withdrawn the draft bill, later government wanted to continue as planned.
However, FTZ workers did not give up the struggle and government wanted to brutally crush the workers protests. On 30th May 2011, the police invaded the FTZ factories and shooted here and there and killed Roshen Chanaka, a 24 year old youth from Minuwangoda.
Government got the orders from the court and influenced church heir achy [Roshen Chanaka was a Catholic] to control the funeral as the government wanted.
Roshen mother and social activist demanded to know what has happend to Roshen at the struggle and then government appointed retired judge Mahanama Thilakeratne as a one person commission to inquire. But the report did not revealed though the judge presented the report to President.
So, Roshen's mother supported by the trade union activists and NGOs, continued to come to the Katunayake Aweriwatta junction clock tower every first day of the month demanding to reveal what Mahanama Thilakeratne report contents.
The 4th annual commemoration of Roshen Chanaka will be held tomorrow, the 1st June at Katunayake at Aweriwatta Junction at 5.00-7.00 pm.
We salute Roshen Chanaka as the saviour of our EPF fund for 4 million private sector employees.
