Land grabbing in every corner of the country is a central issue today. Post war development program highly focudsed on tourism promotion, special economic zones, industrial zones, city brautification program s are caused the damages to coastal and food producer groups all over the country.
There is no exception in Trincomalee district. The meeting was held today at Trinco has revealed that tthere are several places has been occupied by military and a private company.
It is 2000 hectares in Sampur, 1750 acres Marble beach, Akkubar 500 acres, Salapayaru 751 hactares, Kuchchaweli 783 hactares, Pulmudai 5 acres and Kokilai 3000 hactares around the district.
It is unfortunate that the people are reluctant to open the mouth for any mobilizing work against their resource loss. However, towards the end of the meeting participants were agreed to get organize and link with national platform and international solidarity through Praja abilashi net work.
With the present situation it is a big achievement that people undertook the tesponibilities to move forward. Sampur people took the leadership to prepare a document to send to SL President Mahinda, Indian PM Modi and Indian High commissioner in SL as the first step.
We felt this was a successful work in relation to land campaign in the country.
