Good Bye My Dear Fr. Thomas Kocherry

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeIrta3o4Hw

Thomas Kocherry, our beloved Leader is no more with us. He had departed all of us this morning in his bed. Fr. Kocherry was in the age of 74 when he passed away. Fr. Santiago, longlasting friend of Fr. Kocherry gave me this shocking news to me. Also Illango the chairperson of NFF sent the message to me.
Fr. Kocherry was instrumental to the global fisher people's movement. Fr. Kocherry was the founder for both the global fisheries fora of WFF in 1997 in New Delhi, India and WFFP in 2000 in Loctudy, France.
Kocherry's Leadership was shined brightly during the 4SSF Global Conference on Securing Sustainable Smaĺl Scale Fisheries well known as Bangkok conference held in 2008 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Bangkok statement was the base for the Inter national Guidelines on Small Scale Fisheries (IGSSF) Which will be adopted at COFI, 2014 in FAO, in Rome.
He was the back bone and brain behind the global fisheries movement. After the election as the first global coordinator of WFF, he did not want to accept any official post of the coordinatiocommittee. However, it was obvious he was the leader of the movement.
All most all those who sent condolence messages to my mail had admitted this as a great loss for the whole world of fishers and more.
Depart of Thomas Kocherry is indeed a great loss for me personally. I was planning to visit Kocherry in his community at Manuwalkurachy during my next visit to Trivandrum. But I was not succeeded. This is indeed a great loss for me personally, my organisation and also our fishing communifies.
Fr. Ķochery departed us when the one way of victory is ahead of us in June this year.  Fr. Kocherry who was the 4th leader of the movement we lost this year and 3rd Indian leader as N.D. Koli , Chandrika Sharma from India, Fatumata Diarra from Mali and Kosma Titus from Sri Lanka departed us within the first quarter of the year
Dear Tom, you and Chandrika are no more with us. I am one of the victims as both of you departed us. I am sure God will smile with you with your all the sacrifices for the global small fishers.
May god bless you.

  1. Very good reflection on Fr. Thomas Kocherry.
I had an opportunity to learn from him and work with him. He lived lovely and fully as real human being who cares others.
