What people expect from MR regime is not clear to me.
Because, it is very clear that there in no election manifesto for UPFA addressing the issues of the poor and marginalized in the country.
We can not expect any political change of the minority people as government do not consider there is ethnic minority any more.
We can not expect to enforce 13th amendment as president MR him self said, he will not implement 13th amendent. Of course, JVP will also very badly oppose to this move while the chaunistic groups within the government will do the same.
What will happen to the 17th amendment is very clear too. We can see that some news items coming out, though we can not say they are reliable ones or not the present election commissioner will continue till 2017.
At the same time, we can not expect much from the weak opposition as we do not know how many will cross over to strengthen the hands of MR and provide 2/3 majority in the parliament to do all the expected changes in the constitution.
We salute our selves as the voters of the country, not to give 2/3 majority at the parliament at the elections. Now, president MR can do as he wants and may buy the MPs from opposition to count 2/3 at the majority.
People should be alert to see what could hapen at the Budget for the year 2010, as IMF has not approved the next installment at the moment. Can not expect any kind of welfare for the poor as IMF is strongly advocate to reduce the government expenses.
At the same time, we need to be alert with the consequences of the loss of GSP+ for Sri Lanka. More than 7000 products will face serious competetion at European markets and the end results would be loss of market for our products there.
Some analysts says more than 1 million jobs will be in threat with this situation and it is not only to the garment industry but also to the other small producers including ceramics, spices, etc etc.
So, the situation is more than serious what we expected.
We expect, government will say at least the freedom of expression will be restored, the international conventions would be respected, IDP issue will be settled, and the human rights situation would be improved.
Unless, there will be serious difficulties as a nation due to poor management of the foreign policies and the external relationships with the west and the rest.
We expect there will be some improvements to the citizens as government also need to survive, what ever happen to the poor, marginalize and IDps in the counry.
