The Kankasanthurai people have been displaced 25 years ago. Till today they are living in misery due to their displacement, loss of livelihoods, no shelter, no land, no dignity, no security and many more. The newly elected government of President Maitripala Sirisena, decided to release some of the land in Valikamam north since 11 February 2015.
At the same time the govt decided to release above 6500 acres of land which were kept under military as High Security Zones today which is commendable.
The people who were in the KKS are still in the IDP camps and no hope for release of their lands.
At the Round Table Dialogue held day before yesterday, the pathetic situation of IDPs were highlighted by K. Manmohan of KKS without fear.
According to him the length if the coast is under military control extend up to 14 Km starting from Keerimalai through KKS, Urani, Myleddy, Palali up to Vallalai.
Selwamalar, a woman who was residing in the land next to Thalsevana hotel says, "This land is belong to Rameshwaram kovil in Tamil Nadu. But we lived there with our family members without disturbances. Military occupied the land and destroy our houses. We are continuous displaced and live in difficulty."
Adding to this, Manimohan says, "We dont mind military live next to our lands. We can live while they are in the camos. We want to settle in our lands before we die."

However, some news paper reports says the army commander in the northern province say"There is no people returned to the released lands. Most of them are empty and they have migrated to abroad."
It is so sure people will return back to their places of origin uf there is a real resettlement would take place.
